DescriptionThis original Witney blanket was mantufactured by the Witney Blanket Makers Company, who received recognition and a Royal Charter, in 1711, for their high quality. The companies "Point Blankets" were most known for keeping traders and explorers warm; the lines on the side of the blanket act as a "barcode," identifying the weight and quality of the blanket. The time period of the blanket can be dated to either during or after the 1920's because of the phrase "Made in England'' (under the coat of arms), which was added in the 1920s. Also, the woven colors of the stripes in green, red, yellow, and indigo; are known as the "classic colors" and were primarily used, in that order.
