Caption from the Tempe 150th Anniversary exhibit:
In 1950, Peter McLane “Pete” Grant, Jr. opened a little restaurant at 820 S. Mill that became a Tempe institution in its own right – Pete’s Fish & Chips. The location at the edge of downtown was ideal, because not only was it close to local schools and residential neighborhoods, but it was situated along the main highway through the Valley.
