DescriptionThis sofa has decorative cabriole front legs and curved back legs. The front of the seat frame is scalloped on the lower edge and there is molding. There is a decorative, shell-like carving in the center of the frame. The sides of the seat frame are curved, whilst the back is flat. The seat is padded and has been covered with a red, silk fabric. A red gimp helps to secure the fabric to the frame. The arm stumps are curved and decorative and are attached to the arm rests which are padded and covered in red fabric. The top sides of the back rest are curved on the left and right side and come together in a more rectangular shape in the center. The central piece is decorative, in which there is a floral design. The back rest is padded and covered in the same red fabric, with a red gimp around the edge. The sides and back of the sofa are also covered in red fabric. Black fabric has been stapled to the underside of the seat.

There is a fading of the fabric on the left side of the back rest.

Senator Carl Hayden posed on this Sofa for his last formal portrait, by Tempe photographer Jan Young.
