DescriptionTempe Police Officer Joe Diaz, who has served on patrol and in administrative positions at Tempe Police Department and is now in its school liaison program, says there's "a world of difference in talking to adults or juveniles" and the recently named Arizona State Law Enforcement Officer of the Year wins friends through both, according to his superiors. In one of his duties as liaison officer at Gililland school, Diaz speaks to a class -- possibly telling girls why hitchhiking is something not to do, or perhaps telling them what kind of trouble they could find themselves in for shoplifting -- even a piece of penny bubblegum.
