DescriptionFrom a photo caption appearing in Tempe Daily News, August 19, 1978:Memories Of Early Autos - Carl Spain, whose father Pompey came to Tempe to open a blacksmith shop in 1904 and "got into the auto mechanic business" too in 1910, holds photo of the Model T Ford "straight eight" which he built in 1921 - and rebuilt in 1966 in the same garage in Tempe where he built the original. He still has the car in his garage. Carl's wife Marguerite was a grade school teacher in Tempe for 16 years.
