DescriptionSister Mary Valeria, center, retiring this year after 38 years serving Tempe's Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic parochial school as teacher or principal, shares memories with a few of the hundreds of guests at a recent farewell reception in her honor. From left are Cecilia Mendez, one of the nun's early Mr. Carmel students; Sister Bertilla, a former Mr. Carmel principal under whom Sister Mary Valeria was a teacher; Rev Daniel McCready, longtime pastor of Mr. Carmel Church; and Sue Westervelt Enright, a student in the nun's first class when Mr. Carmel School was started in 1945.
