DescriptionInterior photographic view of Haku-un-ji Zen Center, 1448 E. Cedar St., Tempe, 85281.
Per Dick George's catalogue notes:

"Date of Construction: 1994

Haku-un-ji Zen Center is challenging to find. It is located in a residential neighborhood near ASU and it is indistinguishable from the other houses nearby. There are no street signs. The actual zendo (meeting house/meditation room) is behind the house where the abbot and his wife live and tall hedges shield the zendo from street view. Unless you know where the center is ahead of time, you probably won't stumble across it.

Further, zen is quiet. The central experience is silent meditation. Sokai says that at different times upwards of 40 people will gather but neighbors will rarely notice. As a result the center enjoys harmonious relations with them, mostly students and faculty."
