DescriptionMen with three pack animals and two others with saddles (all are either ponies or mules - probably too big to be burros). Also two dogs. View is southbound on Mill. The fire hydrant to the right is probably the one located at the northwest corner of 2nd Street and Mill Avenue. 3rd Street railroad crossing is in background. Large building at left of photo is L.W. Blinn's Lumber Yard.

Note - Although the title attribution of Fourth Street is unlikely to be correct, that has been left unchanged because that information may have been written on the back of the photo. The Fourth (or 4th) Street area was much more developed with commercial properties on both sides of 4th Street (as well as Mill Avenue in this vicinity) by June 1909 (which is the date written on the photo). Blinn's Lumber Yard is one of the few buildings of that scale at that time in Tempe and it's roof configuration is also unique.
