DescriptionColor photo of 2018 City of Tempe Diversity Award Individual Adult winner Belinda Chiu has been and is one of Tempe's finest examples of someone who is commited to diversity. She is one of the founding leaders for the City of Tempe Teen Diversity Dialogues Program, which was created in 2011. The Diversity Dialogue Program is a series of meetings which foster community dialogue about diversity topics, cultural tolerance and inclusion. Belinda was not only part of the program design, but has been the lead facilitator for this program, which runs twice a year, each with seven-week sessions, since 2011. Belinda has served as a commissioner for the City's Human Relations Commission (HRC) from 2010-2016, her last year as commission chair. Finally, Belinda was intrumental in bringing Challenge Day to our community high schools through her work on the HRC. Together with fellow commissioner Jay Scherotter, Belinda traveled to Concord, CA to evaluate the program and confirm it was a good fit for our community. She has participated in several Challenge Days and encourages the Teen Diversity DIalogue participants to also attend.
