DescriptionPhotograph shows the groundbreaking for the Salt River Project Kyrene Generating Station in Tempe, Arizona circa 1951. One gentleman is holding a conceptual drawing of what the power plant will look like upon completion. At top of second media is written "Turning the first spade of earth at the Kyrene power plant. Mr. Eugene Pulliam at the spade". Second media lists the people in the photograph. It is stamped Salt River Project Agricultural Improvement and Power District and signed at the bottom by Lawrence Monette who was president of SRP Credit Union in 1955. According to the page included with the submission, construction of the Kyrene plant began in 1951 with Unit 1 completed July 1, 1952, Unit 2 completed on June 1, 1954.
