DescriptionThe binder begins with a printed note: "Captured Memories Collected by Shirley Blanton". The binder is divided into sections, including "special letters" , and "Ralph's Retirement 1/30/81", and the years, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, and 1965. The special letters section of binder include, among other items, a letter to Ralph Blanton from John F. Kennedy, dated and signed on March 1, 1960 when Kennedy was seeking the Presidential nomination, key chain, name badge, Tempe Fire department patch, commendations and a letter to Blanton from Mayor Mitchell dated February 14, 1981 regarding his retirement on 1/30/1981. The retirement section has original photographs from Blanton's retirement party, cards and letters to Blanton and his wife, Shirley Blanton. The remaining sections, divided by years 1961-1965 contain originals and copies of photographs, newspaper articles on fire incidents in Tempe and fire department personnel and memorabilia. The items often have notations by Shirley Blanton, including the individual names and dates.Status
