BiographyCame to Arizona c1906; came to Tempe in 1917.
Graduated from Berea College in Kentucky. Served as a county assessor and as a Representative in the Kentucky State Legislature before coming to Arizona.
In 1906, he went to Parker, Arizona, and started working for the U.S. Indian Service. In 1907, he was appointed superintendent of the Camp Verde Agency. In 1923 was superintendent of Indian School in Rice, AZ.He also served at several other Indian
agencies, including Fort Apache, Fort Mohave, San Carlos Indian Boarding School, and Sacaton. He moved to Tempe in 1917 and worked as an accountant, and as a clerk in the Arizona Cotton Growers Association (1920), and served as City Clerk from 1920-1922. He also served as Tempe Town
Manager for two years in the 1920s. Retired on 30 Apr 1941 from the San Rosa Papago Reservation, completing 30 years of BIA service. He was a charter member of Tempe University Presbyterian
Church.
Though most of his life was spent in Arizona, he frequently wrote historical articles published in Kentucky newspapers. In recognition of his service to the state, Kentucky Governor Wendell Ford conferred upon him the honorary title of "Kentucky
Colonel" in 1972.
Lived at 1009 Normal Avenue in 1921, 1923.
