BiographyFarmer; rancher; guest ranch owner. In 1936, -'39 , -'41-42 ran a dairy.
Came to Tempe in 1912.
When he was a child, his family went from Missouri to Bakersfield, California, and later moved to Tempe in 1912.
He was in the U.S. Army, 136th Cavalry, during World War I, but never went overseas; he had measles and then pneumonia and spent most of his stint in a hospital in Deming, New Mexico. IN 1921, '23 , -'41-42 lived at R 1. In 1926, -'29, -'36 , -'39 on Rt 2.
He farmed for several years, and then went to work for the Salt River Project, where he worked for 24 years. He purchased a house and 40 acres at 2510 S. Rural Road from Ollie Olson in 1928. He remodeled the old ranch house to accomodate about 12 guests, and operated the house as Bishops Guest Ranch, for winter visitors,
c1930-1942. He sold the property in 1968 to Fannin Realty.
Member of the Tempe Old Settlers Association and the Tempe Historical Society. He was a docent at the Tempe Historical Museum.
Member of the American Legion.
His last address was 2319 Palm Drive.
