BiographyEnrolled at Tempe Grammar School at age nine, but dropped out of school at age 15 in order to help his grandparents. Worked at Desert Citrus Produce, on University Drive and Farmer Avenue. Served in the U.S. Army, 1945-1947.
Worked at the Arizona State College cafeteria, 1947-1951. Attended vocational training in auto trimming and carpentry at ASC under the GI Bill.
Worked as an aircraft mechanic at Luke Field Air Base, 1951-1953.
In 1953 started work at the U.S. Post Office in Tempe, and became the first Hispanic employee working full time under postmaster Floyd Miller. The positions he worked at the Post Office included window clerk, Claims and Inquiry clerk, window
technician, crew leader, and Box Section clerk.
He served one year as the first president of the local chapter of the American Postal Union.
Retired from the Post Office in May 1988.
