BiographyRestaurant owner.
The son of Italian immigrants, he was a telegraph operator in Minnesota in the late 1930s, and was a Navy flier during World War II, and was stationed in the Salt River Valley. After the war, he returned to Arizona (c1947). He opened Monti's Grill in Chandler on 4 Jul 1947. In 1954, he bought the old Hayden
House in Tempe, remodeled it, and opened Monti's La Casa Vieja on 23 Apr 1956. Monti's soon became one of Tempe's most popular restaurants. He won the Don Carlos Award in 1983 in recognition of his contributions to Tempe.
