BiographyCattle rancher, freighter, and merchant.
Came to Tempe in 1892.
Went from Russia to Germany, c1872, where he lived for more than a year. In 1873 he went to Philadelphia, and then to Texas. In 1878 he traveled by horseback from Texas to Arizona, and worked as a miner and prospector in Cochise County. He also freighted goods. He worked in cattle ranching near Willcox, c1886-1892, and became Territorial inspector of brands.
He was associated with the Willcox-based forwarding and commission house of J. Lieberman & Co. Through his company, he purchased ranch lands in the Salt River Valley and moved to the Tempe district in 1892. He bought a 640-acre farm near Tempe, where he raised cattle, grain, and hay.
In 1896, he was elected as a member of Tempe's first elected Town Council, serving 1896-1898.
He was an associate of the Farmers and Merchants Bank in 1896. In 1897, he helped organize the Salt River Valley Cattleman's Association.
In late 1895 he married his deceased brother's wife, Leona.
Member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and United Moderns.
Became a naturalized citizen by 1900.
Lived at 116 E. 6th Street.
