Came to Tempe in 1887, from Missouri.
His family migrated from Purcilville, VA, to Jackson County, MO, in 1880.
According to the Tempe Old Settlers Book, he was given much credit for assisting in "wrenching the [Salt River Valley] Water Users' Association from the hands of exploiters who were managing it for selfish uses and restoring it back into the hands of farmer members who have put this great project back into rational administration."
