DescriptionStudents from 8th Street school celebrate May Day on the lawn at Tempe High School in 1913. Both schools were located at the cornor of 8th Street, now called University Drive and Mill Avenue.Caption from the Tempe 150th Anniversary exhibit (2021):
Seen here around 1913, the students of Tempe Grammar School dance around the May Poles in front of the High School at 9th Street and Mill Avenue. The annual May Day Festival was often performed in April to welcome the coming of summer.
