DescriptionThis chair, one of a set of two, has two saber front legs and two vertical stiles from foot to crest which taper slightly at the bottom. There is a rectangular shaped stretcher on both the left and right side. The seat frame consists of four pieces of wood which are secured underneath with four triangles, which are attached with screws. The front of the seat frame is slightly curved. A padded upholstered seat is attached to the frame and is beige in color. The bottom rail is scalloped and there is a carved pattern in the center. The crest rail is scalloped along the bottom edge and has leaves, fruit and flowers carved in the center section. This is a variant of the restoration gondola chair ("American Furniture of the Nineteenth Century", Celia Jackson Otto, p100).
