DescriptionPity the poor guys at the tag end as First Annual Labor Day 10,000 Meter Run gets underway (photo above) at Tempe Kiwanis Park, at 8:30 a.m. Monday! More than 540 men, women and children took part in the run, sponsored by the Good Sports shop of Tempe and The Good Sports Running Club-and those at the rear were running in a fog of dust. Finishing first (at left) was Tom Hunt, sophomore who runs for the University of Arizona. And right behind him (not pictured) were John Maas, Don Conley, Pat Alvarez and Phil Nielson. Division winners in the run are yet to be determined, according to The Good Sports owners Dan Bradley, Alice Smith, Dennis Chambers and Jim Hadder. Trophies are to be awarded to winners in Juniors, Open, Men and Women ages 30-40, Men and Women 40-50, Men and Women Masters (over 50) and Heavyweight, those 200 pounds and over.-Tempe Daily News, September 6, 1977.The film negative of this photograph is housed in box 2G7-D.
