Firemen survey damage at west side of Parkway Apartments building on South Hardy, where an explosion believed to be caused by leaking gas line and an attempt to light a cigarette resulted in the death of one person, the critical injury of a child and an estimated $70,000 in damage to the building alone. In photo right (see 2001.19.2192), walls of a stairway well and the building lean in opposite directions after the blast which blew the railing from the stairway well straight through nearby apartment in the four-apartment complex.
