DescriptionFrom an article/photograph caption appearing in Tempe Daily News, June 23, 1978:Not Exactly A Microwave - But back at the turn of the century, it did for Tempe's "summer cooks" what today's summer cooks want their microwave ovens to do - cut down on heat in the kitchen! Kerosene-burning stove and oven was used in the summers to replace wood-burning stoves which heated up the whole kitchen. Sitting on the stove is a Griswold American waffle iron which in 1897 boasted of being the "latest thing" on the market.
