DescriptionFrom a photo caption appearing in Tempe Daily News, August 2, 1978:Slave Sale - Father Pat (lower left) sells Frank Mirizio, president of Young Spirits, the youth group at the church.
"Slave sales" were at the time common fundraisers at high schools and churches. Individuals would be "sold" to act as a "slave" for the buyer for a particular period of time.
