DescriptionFrom a photo caption & article appearing in Tempe Daily News, August 11, 1978:It's A Big Hobby - Eugene and Dorothy Bower, who decided to retire early two years ago, spend a lot of their leisure days finding, repairing, and dressing dolls, a growing hobby said to be the second largest in the country. They collect modern dolls that will be future collector's items, primarily, and, says Dorothy, are especially interested in unique mechanicals. Buddy Lee doll she's holding (along with a Scarlett O'Hara doll) is the only one Dorothy had left from her own childhood. That's George and Martha Washington standing on the end table and Gene is holding a mechanical monkey doll, seated on a chair made by Gene. Handy at rebuilding antique furniture, Gene also completely restored the antique chair his wife is seated on.
The film negative of this photograph is housed in box 2G8-C.
