DescriptionFistful of plaques, from Tempe Daily News, March 26, 1986 - Tempe Rotary Club president J.O. Hanford, center right, had his hands full as he prepared to present plaques honoring four Tempe firefighters and one police officer for acts of heroism and meritorious service. Chosen by their respective departments to receive the Rotary awards, which also included $100 savings bonds, were, from left, Tempe Fire Department Capts. Howell Richardson and Robert Connelly, Tempe Police Officer Earl Blades, TFD engineer Jim Yarbrough and firefighter Matthew Tripoli. Rotary safety commitee chairman Earl Motzer said Rotary made the awards because "Too often in our society we take for granted the dedicated performance of police officers and firefighters who ... unselfishly risk their lives to protect our lives and property."(See also 2001.19.5032)
