DescriptionInsignia for United States Air Service Signal Corps. Type worn by officers on their uniform collar. World War I (WWI) era. Insignia composed of two crossed flags with a torch in the middle. In front of the torch is a depiction of the world with spread wings.
Crossed signal flags and torch stand for U.S. Army Signal Corps. Early aviators in U.S. Army were assigned to the Signal Corps (WWI period and before). The addition of the globe with wings to the regular Signal Corps insignia was apparently a short-lived type used in the WWI period for U.S. (1917-1918).
