Caption from the Tempe 150th Anniversary exhibit:
A group of local men congregate around a military airplane and weapons on display in Goodyear in May 1919. Among the commemorations of victory in World War I that month was the arrival of the famous Flying Circus. This acrobatic flying troupe of veteran pilots staged mock air battles to help raise interest in the new Army Air Corps and raise funds to pay for the war effort.
