BiographyLeonard Staff, Jr. grew up in Jacksonville, Illinois. By age 15 he had learned osteopathic manipulation from his father, a doctor. He attended Illinois College, then enrolled at Kirksville for medicine. He finished up his internship at Saginaw Osteopathic Hospital (Michigan). He also trained tehre for anesthesiology.
He moved in 1948 to Safford, AZ for his health and worked two years as family physician and anesthesiologist. Then he moved to Tempe in 1950, opening a practice in the old Pafford house, then a year later moved to his present office on Mill and Seventh.
He is an osteopathic doctor who also did anesthesiology (mornings) and a family practice (afternoons) for most of his career. He also did some OB-GYN. He still (2009) does osteopathic treatments four days a week. Until 1970 he was in practice with his father, who died in 1970. In 1971 he was Osteopathic Physician of the Year, awarded by the Arizona Association. He has many plaques and certificates of achievement.
Community Services here include teaching swimming and lifesaving classes for Red Cross and Tempe YMCA as well as Boy Scout activities. His Mesa Four-Wheeler Club participates in Adopt-a-Ranch (Az. Fish and Game Dept.) to help ranchers and allow four-wheeling and camping on their land.
In 1996 he was campaign champion for Tel-Alumni (Kirkland) Campaign for Arizona for the annual fund.

He has a daughter Laurie, who teaches (1997) in Ahwatukee and a granddaughter, Audra.
