BiographyMortician.
Attended Arizona State Teachers College, and worked as a life guard at Tempe Beach Swimming Pool. After graduating (c1938), he went to the College of Mortuary Science in San Francisco for a
9-month course. He and his brother became partners in the Carr Mortuary, which their father had started.
During World War II, he marched across Europe as combat infantryman with Patton's Third Army. Received the Purple Heart with Oak Cluster, and the Bronze Star. He was chairman of the
Civil Defense Board for several years after the war.
President of the Tempe Chamber of Commerce, 1963-1964. He served over 20 years as a member of the Tempe Volunteer Fire Department, and was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans.
He served two terms as president of the Ritter School PTA, and was a Board member, Tempe Union High School District, 1959-1964.
In 1962, he was president of the Maricopa County School Board Association. He was the first World War II veteran to serve as commander of the William Bloys American Legion Post, and went on to become Arizona American Legion commander, 1948-1949. Lived at 115 Palmdale Drive.
