BiographyAttorney; Arizona Attorney General, 1960-1964.As a child, he lived in Prescott, Phoenix, and Tucson. In 1940 he enrolled at the University of Arizona but was soon called for military duty in Europe. He served as a corporal in the 45th Division, and was among the first wave of combat troops to land in the Allied invasion of Southern France in 1944. After the war, he returned to the University of Arizona, received his AB degree in 1947, and a law degree in 1949.
Started a law practice in Willcox.
In 1951 he became an attorney for the Arizona State Industrial Commission in Phoenix. He was an assistant state attorney general, 1953-1955; state attorney general, 1960-1964.
Ran unsuccessfully for Governor of Arizona.
Had a private law practice with the firm of Pickrell, Hunter, Bartlett and Penn in Phoenix, and later started a law partnership with Harry A. Stewart, Jr., in 1966.
Served as President of the Maricopa County Legal Aid Society, President of the Central Arizona Peace Corps Service Council, and on the Board of Directors of the Maricopa County Health Facilities Planning Council.
