BiographyEnglish Professor at the Territorial Normal School, c1898. When the Spanish-American War began in 1898, he resigned his position and enlisted in the First Volunteer Cavalry (Rough Riders) on 30 Apr 1898, and served as a Sergeant in C Troop. He was discharged on 8 Sep 1898. When he returned to Tempe in late 1898, he unsuccessfully ran for election as School Superintendent of Maricopa County.In 1905, he led an expedition of four men to Tiburon Island, off the coast of Sonora, in search of gold. He was presumed dead after the expedition became stranded without water.
