At age of 17 (c1896) he and his brother, Laurits, arrived in New York City. Took a train to Tempe, arriving 10 Apr 1898. Worked at farms in the Tempe area, working for Drace Jepsen for six months, and for Price Brown for one and a half years (c1900). He also worked for Dwight B. Heard. After working in the sawmill at Flagstaff, he and his brother, Laurits, bought a goat ranch at Gisela, Arizona. There was a "war" going on between cattle and goat growers, and they decided they didn't want to get involved, so they sold out. Drace went into parnership with a man by the name of Brock and farmed 160 acres in Tempe. They lost money on this farming venture. Drace decided to go to Bisbee and try mining. He worked for about six months before getting blood poisoning in one hand, and then moved to Phoenix.
On Dwight Heard's recommendation, Anderson was hired as supervisor of a 1200-acre ranch in Buckeye in 1905. Married Sarah Jessie Perry in 1907. They bought a ranch at Arlington, Arizona, from her grandfather, R.E. Perry, that year, and lived there for 50 years. They bought a retirement home in Phoenix in August 1957.
