DescriptionHayden Mill and Store, Mill Avenue at the river. Built in 1871, partially burned in early 1890s, rebuilt and added onto. Water diverted from the Salt River dropped twenty four feet into a water wheel which turned the grinding stones. The first wheat was brought in by the Pima and Maricopa Indians, but soon farmers from all parts of the valley were growing wheat for the mill.Status
