DescriptionBlack and white photograph showing a croud of people watching a circus performance by the Ash Avenue bridge, Tempe. Acrobats are performing.Caption from the Tempe 150th Anniversary exhibit:
Scores of visitors seated at Tempe Beach’s cobblestone baseball bleachers enjoy an open-air circus performance around 1960. Even as the city spread out and television competed more-and-more with live entertainment, Tempe Beach with its ever-popular pool continued to have great power to draw people of all ages to events at the shady oasis downtown.
