DescriptionFrom an article published in Tempe Daily News, April 14, 1977:

Now It's Official -

The brand new Sears store at Alma School road and Southern, Mesa, opened with the help of mayors from the three cities it will serve, Wednesday morning. From left, store manager, Max Saftenbert supervises as grand opening "ribbons" are snipped by Tempe Mayor Bill LoPiano. Decision to locate the new Sears at the site convenient to all three cities was made after economic studies indicated the Tempe-Mesa area is "growing and offers a bright future," according to area manager Howard Lasky.
