DescriptionFrom a front page photograph caption appearing Friday, March 31, 1978 in the Tempe Daily News:Paying A Surprise Visit - Arizona Governor Bruce Babbitt (center), who earned his master's degree in geophysics before going into law, paid a surprise visit to Tempe - and the luncheon meeting of the Geological Society of America, Cordilleran Section, on the ASU campus, yesterday afternoon. Welcoming the unexpected guest are Dr. Troy L. Pewe (left) and Dr. Michael F. Sheridan, both of ASU, co-chairmen for the conclave being held here this week which has attracted approximately 1,000 geologists to the campus.
