Since the 1920s, the Casa Vieja had been an important gathering place in the Valley.
Leonard Monti continued to cater to highway travelers and big get-togethers when he opened his steakhouse in the late 1950s, while his fully-stocked bar was in part a nod to local businessmen entertaining clients, much the same way frontier stockmen made deals at the old Tempe House saloon.
