DescriptionPhoto of Indians with three horse-drawn wagons delivering grain at the side of Hayden Mill.
Back of the photo has notes on family connected to step-grandfather, Avery Walsworth, who worked at the Mill.

Behind the teams, wagons and the wood fence in the middle-left background of the photo is the city calaboose, or jail house. The calaboose was built in 1888 with permission from Maricopa County as Tempe's branch jail (for the main County jail in Phoenix). This small jail house was a tall, one-story red brick building with tall windows and a chimney to warm the building during winter months. The calaboose served Tempe until 1912 when it was demolished - it was replaced by the jail in the basement of the new City Hall (built at 5th Street and Myrtle Avenue).
