DescriptionMarble bust of Valley National Bank president Walter Bimson by Tempe sculptor Lawrence Tenney Stevens.
Bimson was a local patron of the arts, and was known for bank branches with interesting architecture and comissioned art pieces. Tempe sculptor Lawrence Tenney Stevens made a number of pieces for Bimson. This may be the last work completed by Lawrence Tenney Stevens before he died. It was intended for the lobby of the Valley Center tower in Phoenix , located at 201 North Central Avenue. Instead it remained in storage until it was eventually installed in the outdoor courtyard of that building. Valley National Bank became Bank One, and then Chase Bank. The statue changed ownership along with these changes. In 2021 Chase Bank vacated the Phoenix tower and donated the statue to Tempe History Museum.
