DescriptionThis is a wooden sign from the Old Town Books bookstore, which was located on 518 S. Mill Avenue in Tempe. Old Town Books prided itself on selling old, used and out-of-print books and was also a search service. The bookstore was opened by ASU History Professor Chris Smith on 7th Street in downtown Tempe in 1984. He moved the store to its well-known Mill Avenue location in 1987. After 38 years, Old Town Books closed after Smith passed away in 2022. The entire inventory of the store was then sold, with the proceeds going to support the Tempe Public Library and various local nonprofit organizations.Status
