Graduated from Tempe High School as valedictorian of his class. In 19253, 1925 was a student, living at 609 Forest Ave. Received his B.A. degree from Leland Stanford University in 1928, his M.A. from Harvard University School of Business

Administration in 1930, and a law degree from Fordham University College of Law in 1938.

He was a Certified Public Accountant, tax consultant and attorney. He was admitted to the State Bar of New York in 1939, and the State Bar of Arizona in 1955. Prior to returning to Arizona, he lived in New York and worked for the Chase National Bank, and was retained as a managing tax attorney by Arthur Anderson & Co. He also practiced law in New York City under the parnership name of Muchnic and Birchett, 1954-1960.

He returned to Tempe in 1955, but still retaining his New York law firm connection. He established a law office in Phoenix, and in 1958, formed the law parnership of Tognoni, Parson, Birchett and Gooding. His practice specialized in corporate law, real property, land syndications, securities registrations with federal and state regulatory bodies, tax consultation, estate planning and probate matters. On 28 Jan 1962, he was shot to

death in his Phoenix office by a former client of one of his associates, a man he didn't know. A small park, Plazita del Descanso, on Mill Avenue between 5th and 6th streets, was dedicated to him. His firm established the Joseph A. Birchett

Memorial Fund at the University of Arizona College of Law.

Lived on E. 7th Street. In 1928, -'29, -'30 lived at 609 Forest Ave. In 1929 was a rancher.
