BiographyMusician; custodian at Arizona State University, c1941-1976.
Born in Mickey Mouse Barrio of Tempe.
He attended the Eighth Street School until the Seventh grade, when he transferred to Tempe Grammar School (the Tenth Street School). At Tempe High School he played in the school band.
He and his brothers, Joe and Gabriel, were accomplished musicians. He played the saxophone and clarinet with Pablito Chavarria for 15 years, and played in the WPA Band during the Depression. When he was 15 years old, he joined the Arizona
National Guard Band, and continued to play with them for 14 years. His family was forced to move from the Mickey Mouse Barrio in 1957 due to the expansion of ASU.
He worked at ASU for 35 years as a custodian in the Life Sciences Building, under the supervision of Dr. Stanke, who worked with snakes and scorpians. Carbajal stung so many times that he became immune to the venom.
