DescriptionTempe Fire Department practicing drill. Caption on back reads: OH, BY THE WAY . . . Firefighter Frank Bray wrings a towel of sweat, as he talks to Capt. Jim Bandura, almost oblivious to the conflagration behind him. Actually, the Tempe Fire Department was practicing skills on a couple of old houses in the 1300 block of West Broadway, and had intentionally set them on fire. Firefighters get firsthand experience at dousing flames, and the city gets rid of decaying structures, creating a twofold benefit.
