DescriptionThe Lyons family stands for a photo in front of Tempe’s 1st Christian Church at the northeast corner of Forest Avenue and 8th Street (now University Drive). The photo is dated December 15, 1929.

Reverend David Lyons, Mrs. Lyons, and their two daughters arrived in Tempe in September 1928. Formerly of Houston, Texas, Reverend Lyons came to Tempe to take over as pastor of the 1st Christian Church. At this time, the available information on Reverend Lyons and his family is limited. The duration of the family’s stay in Tempe is not known (assuming that they probably moved at some point since most ministers were “on a circuit” from one town’s congregation to the next). The first names of Mrs. Lyons and their daughters is not known.
The Lyons family may have resided in the parsonage building just north of the church, located at 711 S. Forest.
