DescriptionLooking north on Mill Avenue from 6th Street. Birchett Brother's Grocery and Laird and Dines Drugstore on the right.

Additional notes - Photograph taken sometime after 1901 and prior to 1911, because the Birchett Bros. Grocers building does not appear on Sanborn Insurance maps until 1911. This grocery store is at the northeast corner of Mill Avenue and 6th Street. The Laird & Dines Drug Store behind it is on the southeast corner of Mill Avenue and 5th Street.

The sign just seen at the middle left (west) edge of the photo is on the Tempe Hardware building. (The hardware building is on the west side of Mill Avenue between 5th and 6th Streets, and is closer to the latter street). The building just peeking out from the trees in the background on the left (west) side of Mill Avenue is the Casa Loma Hotel, which is on the northwest corner of Mill Avenue and 4th Street.
