DescriptionCoat and trousers for cadet at Tempe Normal School (ASU).

Gray wool uniform with black mohair trim. Front of coat closed by hidden buttons down the front. Short standing collar. Collar is the color of the black mohair trim, which extends down along the front closure, and bottom hem, as well as several inches above the bottom of the cuffs on each sleeve (and likely the seams on the back). Trouser legs are each trimmed in black mohair cloth along outer seams. Cloth loops at waist for belt. Buttons on interior of waist line for suspenders (no suspenders present).

This uniform of cadet-gray cloth was typical of cadet unforms at schools and universities around the United States in the late 1800s and early 1900s. This style of uniform mimicked the service uniform of officers in the U.S. armed services at this time (which were usually dark blue or white in color).
