DescriptionFrom an article/photograph published in Tempe Daily News, Monday, April 11, 1977:

Completion Near -

It's clear sailing for Tempe drivers on 48th street between University and Washington as the state Department of Transportation nears completion of phase one of the Ho-Ho-Kam Expressway, which will ease access to Sky Harbor International Airport from the East. This 1.3-mile section of 48th used to be narrow and often, clogged with traffic, but now has four lanes which will feed traffic across a bridge and onto a lengthened Sky Harbor boulevard. As part of the project, the state has added a lined flood drainage ditch down the center of the right-of-way.
The film negative of this photograph is housed in box 2G7-B.
