DescriptionIn The Shade Of The Old Cottonwood-Tempe Daily News-July 23, 1977Relaxing in the shade of old trees which made Tempe Beach Park one of the prettier parks in the city, adults watch as youngsters enjoy an afternoon swim in the Beach pool. Today's 25-yard Tempe Beach pool is a long way from the original 50-meter Olympics-sized swimming pool which made Tempe Beach a star attraction for swimmers from throughout the state-and the Far West-when it opened in 1923. Olympics swimmers Eleanor Holm, later to enjoy another modicum of fame as a movie actress, and Katherine Rawls were among the many who swam in that pool.
