Description'The Granddaddy' Of 'Em All-Tempe Daily News-July 23 1977

Playground equipment and modern lines of the recreation hall in background left belie the fact that the city's Tempe Beach Park is the forerunner of all the city's parks. Located in an historic part of the city, where Hayden's Ferry (now Tempe) had its beginnings, Tempe Beach Park became the city's first when it opened to the public in 1923. It's changed a lot since then-but the old park still brings back many fond memories for longtime Tempeans.
