DescriptionFrom a photograph caption appearing in the Monday, April 17, 1978 issue of Tempe Daily News:Added Surprise - When the old Petersen House at Southern and Priest was still home to its original owner Niels Petersen and family, it was frequently the scene for picnics and socials attended by many of the community's leading pioneer families. So it was more than appropriate that Tempe Historical Museum Docents, who mad the home focal point for a fund-raising tour over the weekend, should stage a surprise party there Sunday afternoon for a couple of pioneer Tempe family members - Gene Bishop (that's him in the top hat), and Ophelia Celaya (at right), both marking their 85th birthdays. Bishop and his wife Irene (to his right) are both members of the Museum Docents and very active in the Historical Society. Miss Celaya has been a longtime officer in Tempe Old Settlers Association. It was a birthday celebration for Tempe Historical Museum too; it was opened on April 15, 1972.
